Why I built this

The same picture at every tournament: players sit with their phones, typing opponents' DWZ numbers into various sites one by one. I play chess myself and wanted to quickly see how my DWZ develops after tournaments — without any manual typing.

– Marc Motzer, club player and developer of this site

About this calculator

What this calculator does differently

  • No manual typing – just the chess-results.com link is enough.
  • Correct WO formula – including WO 3.6 special rating.
  • Provisional FIDE Elo – for FIDE-rated tournaments.
  • DSB database matching – opponents are found automatically.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the calculation?

The calculation follows the official DSB rating regulations (WO). Small deviations from the final DSB evaluation are possible, e.g. for results corrected afterwards.

Why are some opponents missing?

Not all players are registered in the DSB database — this mainly affects foreign players and newly registered club members.

What is the K-factor?

The K-factor (development coefficient) determines how strongly a tournament result changes your DWZ. It depends on the DWZ index, your age group in the year the tournament ends, and in part on your DWZ itself (K = K0 · brake factor + success bonus, WO Supplement 1.3).

What is the special rating (WO 3.6)?

If an opponent's tournament performance rating is more than 300 points above their own previous DWZ (with at least 5 rated games), they count towards their opponents' calculations with this performance rating instead of their DWZ (WO 3.6.3). This does not apply to two-player matches.
